Nigerian hip-hop musician Stahgee is back in the street rap game with “No More Excuses,” a tune that favors lived experience over polished melody.
Stahgee, whose real name is Francis Chukwuemeka Azubuike, has made a reputation for himself by blending modern hip-hop with the traditional Nigerian sound. His lyrics are inspired by his own life and the people in his life thus, “Stahgee No More Excuses” has that same rawness his followers know and anticipate. Songs like “Owu Ite,” “Yadiba” and “God Did It” have defined a discography grounded in hope and perseverance, even when the subject matter gets serious.
The new single is more urgent. Stahgee stops the dithering. Stahgee uses the record to make a statement about accountability and doing something instead of waiting for the ideal moment. That kind of no-nonsense statement is par for the course in his wider catalog, as he’s always been more about social commentary than empty bars.
Stahgee sees himself as a microphone for the hood, a greatness that was the plan from the beginning. “No More Excuses” comes off as a declaration of will from an artist determined to keep pushing, despite the challenges of starting a career from scratch.
