ShaunMusiq & Rory Diamondz & Thatohatsi – “Maseko” off the upcoming album “MISSING PIECE” by ShaunMusiq
In fact, the title is his own surname, which says a lot about how personal this record is for him. It’s one of 21 tracks on the project, and he’s definitely leaning heavily on collabs to bring the whole thing together. That many features on one album is not something to be taken lightly.
The beat is the traditional Amapiano pocket, warm keys on top of steady rolling drums. Here, there is no urgency; it merely finds its rhythm and keeps it. That’s kind of his whole thing at this point, that patience.
Rory Diamondz delivers his signature energy to a synergy that has already been proven on previous tracks with ShaunMusiq. It doesn’t seem like a first-time pairing. It seems like two people who already know how the other functions. That ease is mirrored in how smooth the record sounds.
Thatohatsi finishes it off, and frankly their name is all over this record at this point. They bring their own flavor without getting in anyone else’s way. Everyone seems to just know their lane here.
What makes “Maseko” work is that even with three names on the credits, nothing is crowded. It still sounds like one song, not three ideas sewn together. It’s harder than most people think to get away with.
This is a crazy banger that’s got to be on everyone’s playlist.
