Nigerian singer and producer Pheelz makes “I’M OK (Live)” one of the more touching moments on A Rii Set (Live), sharing the performance with Nigerian Afropop diva Tiwa Savage.
The text is (mostly) directly about stress and perplexity, thankfulness, and the effort to continuously checking in on your state of mind. Pheelz adds that certain days are hard and counters that pressure with prayer, work and perspective, while Tiwa Savage helps carry the duet format.
Pheelz’s production still anchors the album but the live performance lends it a more exposed environment than the June studio take. With a solid Afrobeats background, there’s enough room for the words and vocal interplay to take center stage.
The topic matter lends the song a different connection than the more joyous pieces around the project. Pairing her with Tiwa Savage also adds two known Nigerian voices to a record whose message can go beyond a single album cycle.
The live recording is available on various internet platforms. Listen to it and tell me in the comments what caught your attention.
