The Party Starter (PS2) performer list changes yet again with “Wavey,” an Afrobeats collab between Nigerian producer Masterkraft and The Nweke Kids.
The song introduces The Nweke Kids to a project already filled by a broad array of musicians, providing Masterkraft with another relationship separate from the artists employed on the previous Party Starter edition.
“Wavey” is one of the shorter Afrobeats numbers on the album at roughly three and a half minutes. The song’s length gives the collaboration a smaller format than many of the project’s recordings, which exceed four minutes.
The shifting ensemble has been a staple of Masterkraft’s work, whether producing for huge stars or putting out releases under his own name. Working with less recognizable names here also opens up space for the CD to educate audiences to singers who exist outside the most obvious mainstream options.
