Talented American vocalist Kali Uchis debuted “Telepatía” in 2020, but the song became a global craze in early 2021.

The TikTok wasn’t flashy at first. And then it burst. The audio was utilized in over 1.2 million videos. The hashtag has more than 205 million views. All of a sudden, everybody knew the words, even if they didn’t understand Spanish. That kind of organic spread doesn’t happen on purpose. That’s what occurs when a song is very, very good.

The record is only two minutes and forty seconds long and produced by Tainy, Lara, and Albert Hype. However, you never sense that short duration is lacking. Kali Uchis wrote it about loving someone she couldn’t be with physically. So she sang about spiritual connection instead. That idea felt different during a pandemic, when the whole world was separated from the people they loved.

The lyrics shift easily from Spanish to English. Plus, she intentionally made songs gender-neutral, which meant the song was ours, no matter who we loved.

“Telepatía” reached No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was her first Top 40 hit as a lead act. But the stats don’t convey the whole story. The reason people continue to play it years later is easier than that. It feels like it’s something real.
