The 2026 sophomore release by Nigerian artist FOLA, 9 Album, opens with the Yoruba phrase “awade,” meaning “we have arrived.”
It is a phrase that has weight in the wake of the singer’s meteoric climb in the Afrobeats world. The hit with “alone” and the later success of catharsis made him a major developing artist; therefore, the statement of arrival was extremely crucial for his career.
FOLA describes the album as a collection born out of personal experiences working with musicians and producers he respects. Starting with a statement of arrival provides the project a clear initial aim and links seamlessly with its football-inspired title.
The number nine is the typical centre-forward, a role that is linked to scoring goals. Having adopted the identity of a striker in music, FOLA uses the album theme to mirror his growing confidence and financial success.
The song is accessible on all major digital streaming platforms. Please listen and share your thoughts in the comments below.
