Highlife musician Fanzy Papaya is back with a new single titled “Hada” off his “Highlife Rockstar” album. And this party-ready piece is loaded with a hefty dose of local flavor to set a joyful tone right from the start.
Local music culture is still in its infancy, but the thirst for authentic indigenous sounds is still very much alive. Fanzy Papaya knows this hunger; he always makes music that respects his origins. So he uses this one particular music to bridge the gap between old highlife and modern party sounds.
Fast congas and hard guitar chords provide a great, vivid canvas for the sound engineer. He also keeps the club crowd moving with a powerful, contemporary bass drum. But the nice ogene flute sound floats beautifully above the percussion.
Fanzy Papaya has great vocal clarity and tremendous enthusiasm. He is at home in English and in his native Igbo, changing gears seamlessly without losing his hold. His tone was sharp enough to enable the words to cut through the heavy accompaniment.
