Fally Ipupa – Résurrection

Fally Ipupa, a Congolese rumba legend, delivered “Résurrection,” the eleventh track on disk one of his sprawling “XX: Délirium” opus. This one is about rejuvenation, about the powerful sense of falling in love again after everything has come apart.

“Fally Ipupa has covered many aspects of love in this album and “Résurrection” is about emotional rebuilding not romantic love. This one comes at the end of the first disc’s tracklist, just after the grief-laden “Fidélité” and “Cadence,” and is a real turning point in the larger emotional arc of the project. “XX: Délirium” is so steeped in loss and sadness that a song clearly built around resurrection feels like a conscious response to that pain.

The production remains nicely grounded in warm, genuine Congolese rumba, calm and unhurried from start to finish. Nothing here hastens to resolution. Nothing here is earned. Instead, the arrangement allows the concept of emotional rebirth to really progress across the record.
