“16” is the focus of Still In Charge, giving Nigerian Afro-fusion artist BNXN another solo moment on the six-song project.
The song follows “Online”, the single that previewed the EP in September, and keeps BNXN in complete control without a guest appearance. It’s one of the tracks that allows his own writing and vocal character to carry the project between its bigger collaborations.
WalahiSteph produced the record, crafting it around a measured groove that provides plenty of room for BNXN’s melodic phrasing and unique vocal tone.
That solitary concentration is on a project with names as big as Asake and FOLA. Songs like these push against such collaborations taking over the conversation and instead act as a reminder of the voice and songwriting style that has made BNXN a fixture in contemporary Nigerian Afropop.
