Zulu Queens ft. Lwah Ndlunkulu & MaWhoo – Paris ne Gucci

Lwah Ndlunkulu and MaWhoo are on “Paris ne Gucci,” the last track off their collaborative studio album “Isithembu,” out August 28 via MaWhoo Entertainment and Inkabi Records through Sony Music Africa.

The title itself has a certain cultural irony. “Paris Ne Gucci” inserts two worldwide luxury allusions into a Maskandi context—and that difference is the idea. Apple Music dubbed it a calm finale, with current references that nail fresh variations on the cultural familiarity that permeates the “Isithembu” album. So the record ends a long-standing Zulu cultural effort with a fun, modern wink—luxury as aspiration, mediated through indigenous musical heritage.

The genealogy underlying this collaboration is also significant. Both Lwah Ndlunkulu and MaWhoo have personal histories with Mthandeni SK’s multi-platinum hits, “Paris” and “Gucci”—which combined have amassed over 48 million listens on Spotify – and this gives both artists a certain common credential around these very title allusions. So “Paris ne Gucci” is not loosely adopting the names. It is a final argument from two artists who have already lived with those words independently and now bring them together.

The album sequence rewards the finale nicely—after “Ungalobolile” conveys the sorrow of eloping and “Ngijabule” basks in the ecstasy of love, “Paris ne Gucci” comes as the calm final word on a 15-song project that runs for one hour and one minute. That placement lends that song greater emotional weight on the record than it would have as a stand-alone release.
