Nigerian Afropop star Yemi Alade enlists Nigerian rapper JeriQ on It’s Yemi Alade for “Overtake,” linking the 2026 album directly to modern Igbo rap.
Here, Yemi Alade takes up the vocal space, with no guest verse or duet partner to change the performance. That offers the record a different function on an album where Don Jazzy, Bien, FAVE, Teni, JeriQ and a few other names feature elsewhere.
The energy is fast-paced, with a rapid Afrobeats rhythm underpinning a forward-moving arrangement. It’s among the more rhythmically aggressive solo recordings associated with the group, lending the song an immediate dance-oriented feel without having to call on a featured artist.
Yemi Alade has long established part of her appeal on tracks that can migrate into live settings and dance places and her speedier approach provides the song a similar potential. And another logical way for it to reach listeners is through her large African touring footprint.
