“Away” includes two established Nigerian voices, as Yemi Alade brings Teni into the guest line-up for her 2026 album It’s Yemi Alade.
In the partnership, performers who have already made recognizable identities inside Nigerian music join forces without the need for a foreign feature to generate difference. The collaboration brings together artists from multiple generations and regional scenes, with Teni lending another prominent female voice to the fold.
The record is propelled by a fast Afrobeats tempo that provides a rhythmic framework for both singers to play to their melodic talents. The tempo is brisk, but not so fast that the clarity of the two vocal identities is lost, and the intensity of the album’s fastest stuff is never attained.
Both women already have substantial Nigerian and African audiences, thus the duet comes to the album with an established listener base on either side. Teni also delivers a repertoire of mainstream hits like “Case” and “Uyo Meyo,” making the LP more familiar.
