“General Market” Nigerian Afropop heavyweight Yemi Alade goes solo on It’s Yemi Alade, her seventh studio album and first full-length project since Rebel Queen.
With no guest artist on the record, all the vocals are left to Yemi Alade, giving her another opportunity to stamp her mark on the album through her own presence instead of a collab. It comes with a handful of new solo recordings revealed with the release.
The track is a controlled Afrobeats affair, flowing at a calmer tempo than some of the faster pieces on the album. The controlled tempo allows the vocal parts to breathe while keeping a clear rhythmic push.
Yemi Alade has enough songs to reach audiences in Nigeria, other African countries, and the diaspora. Long-running records like “Johnny” built that reach, delivering new solo material to an audience that goes far beyond any one market.
