Nigerian Afropop sensation Yemi Alade joins Kenyan singer Sofiya Nzau and Njerae on “Earth Song” adding to the pan-African cooperation thread running through It’s Yemi Alade.
The line-up of three women joins Nigerian and Kenyan voices in one album, maintaining Yemi Alade’s long-standing interest in collaborations outside her native market. Sofiya Nzau and Njerae also add two very diverse contemporary Kenyan music backgrounds to the production as opposed to being interchangeable guests.
The record has a bouncy Afrobeats pulse, enough rhythmic energy to sustain three soloists without pushing the arrangement into a hyper-fast speed. The shared vocal space naturally yields more variance than the solo performances that frame the album.
East Africa has been a major territory in Yemi Alade’s international success, hence the Kenyan duet is quite pertinent to her current audience there. The teaming up of Sofiya Nzau and Njerae also affords the partnership a clear pathway to the listeners currently following Kenya’s current wave of internationally recognizable artists.
