Well-known, talented Tanzanian Hip-Hop giant Mwana FA returns after nearly four years with a touching new tune named “Baraka Nyingi.”
Four years is a long time to be mute when you have the kind of catalog Mwana FA possesses. His name is Hamis Mwinjuma, and he came via East Coast Team with A.Y and GK, helping to establish the sound of Bongo Flava in its embryonic years. Since then, he has added the title of Member of Parliament for Muheza to his identity. Somewhere between the music and the politics, the solo releases ceased — Until Now.
“Baraka Nyingi” means “many blessings,” and that title selection for a return single is a deliberate one. He’s not coming back with a diss track or a club banger. He comes back with a sense of appreciation, and it actually suits the version of Mwana FA who has spent recent years in public service rather than in the studio.
The language remains introspective, focusing on the acknowledgment of varied events and seasons that build a life rather than simply tallying successes. For someone who has experienced the highs of the music industry and the rigors of national politics, that perspective seems earned, not donned.
Tanzania’s Hip-Hop industry has evolved a lot in four years, but Mwana FA’s voice still has a weight that most of the newer artists haven’t had time to develop.
