Woza Bakzin and GoldMax welcome Zee Nxumalo and Solan Lo back for “Challenge DC”, yet another notch in this ongoing run of theirs.

Zee Nxumalo is a familiar face from “Cosh’ uPin,” so there’s a ready-made chemistry here. Solan Lo is new to the crew though, fresh voice in the mix. Challenge-style titles always say there’s something competitive inside the lyrics, and this doesn’t veer away from that.

GoldMax keeps the log drum foundation steady, usual stuff for this point for the duet. But sections of the beat feel a little bit like a struggle, a call-and-response kind of thing. Fits the challenge idea without unnecessarily complicating everything.

Woza Bakzin opens out a bit cocky, laying down whatever the task really is. Not too serious, more playful than hostile. Gives a free tone to whatever is answering back.

“Zee Nxumalo responds in the same cutting tone as before, still effective. Solan Lo keeps everything under control, doing pretty well for a first appearance against two returning names. Nobody caves, which is essentially the whole point of a challenge course anyhow.

“Challenge DC” is all about competition yet it makes it entertaining and not tense. Another nice addition to what is turning into a very deep repertoire for Woza Bakzin and GoldMax.
