ShaunMusiq ends “Missing Piece” with “Ngiyaxolisa,” featuring Jay Sax and Leandra. Vert to finish things off.
“Ngiyaxolisa” is essentially “I’m Sorry,” which is a very crazy way to close out a 21-track album, if you think about it. Most projects end with a banger, but he’s ending with something considerably more personal. That pick alone shows you he wasn’t just arbitrarily piling up tracks.
The beat still has that contagious ShaunMusiq bounce, but there’s more emotion to it this time. Everything is warm with Jay Sax’s warmth. There’s no urgency; it just sits there and lets the feeling build.
He uses the same concept that’s worked for the whole record but amps up the emotion here. It’s less about the celebration and more about love and regret. That transition provides the closer its own weight vis-a-vis everything preceding it.
Leandra.”Vert truly carries this one vocally; her voice does much of the emotional lifting. She doesn’t oversell anything either; it just seems genuine. Which is what prevents it from feeling like a contrived tearjerker moment.
Honestly, ending the album on Ngiyaxolisa just makes sense. It ends on something you can genuinely sit with, not another fast dance record. That’s a good technique to leave people wondering about the record after it’s over.
