Ugandan gospel choir UG Tusinze Yesu have produced a stirring new worship song, “Omwoyo We Yesu,” praising the Spirit of Jesus with deep East African gospel harmonies.
The title is “The Spirit of Jesus” in Luganda, and the record bears that announcement with true congregational weight throughout. UG Tusinze Yesu have developed their reputation on the gospel circuit across Uganda by the strength of collective vocal force rather than individual limelight moments and “Omwoyo We Yesu” continues that tradition faithfully.
What makes this record different from most choir recordings is the way the arrangement fuses traditional East African gospel textures with a modern production style.
You can tell the difference between a band playing for an audience and a band that is really worshipping together, and “Omwoyo We Yesu” is definitely the latter.
