South African sensation Tyla comes back with a striking new single named “DOUBLE BLIND,” off her new EP A*POP.
This one kicks off the 14-track album out July 24 via FAX and Epic Records. Tyla has commented about living what she sings on this project, saying the process was more personal than her debut. So “DOUBLE BLIND” fits into the greater arc of an album founded on lived experience and not surface-level pop.
The production has the same assured, popiano sound that runs through much of the song. There’s nothing here that sounds like filler between bigger singles. And the arrangement remains snappy and thus the tune holds its own among a tracklist packed of stand out moments.
She sounds clear-eyed honest rather than confused about the situation. That bluntness has carried through much of A*POP’s storytelling.
That kind of tension sits well with other introspective cuts on the CD. So even if you don’t catch every lyric, the emotional stakes are evident.
