Katlehong-born Sony Music artist Tumi Musiq joins forces with Pfunzo Strings, AJ SafeSax and Sai Mabaso for a new Amapiano tune titled “Many Phases.”

The lineup here is no accident. Live instrumentation from Pfunzo Strings and AJ SafeSax gives “Many Phases” a level of excitement that sets it apart from the average piano-only Amapiano album. Then Sai Mabaso provides vocal warmth that is the emotional center of the record. The thing that makes the cooperation work is that each artist brings something to the table that the rest can’t, the kind of complimentary line up that distinguishes a well-constructed Amapiano track from a bunch of featured names on a single beat.

Tumi Musiq’s producing sense has always been cognizant of the soulful and jazz-influenced side of Amapiano. His deal with Sony Music earlier in 2025 indicated that instinct was being monitored closely out in the sector. But “Many Phases” reveals the signing has not inclined him toward commercial compromise. The record still carries his trademark warmth and depth of flow.

The concept of the title also matches perfectly with his artistic character. The theme of life, with its simultaneous periods of joy and difficulty, progress and uncertainty, is one that resonates profoundly with the Amapiano audience. But Tumi Musiq doesn’t get heavy. He develops music that captures that complexity thru sensation, not words. Because sometimes the layout expresses what the words cannot.

For South African Amapiano lovers who are fans of the genre’s more soulful, instrumentally rich side, Tumi Musiq can be counted on to keep producing exactly what that lane needs.
