Nigerian multi-skilled rapper and musician Tuff King ends his “Black Sheepizen” EP with the song “Gividem.”
“Gividem,” the sixth and last song of the project, has the weight of a closing statement. That placement is key, because Tuff King approaches his EPs like full arcs as opposed to random compilations, ranging from the agony of the opener “Pain Pass” all the way through to this final release.
Interestingly, “Gividem” also became the name of his whole playlist series on Audiomack, where it currently rests among 100 handpicked tracks. That same title now defines his wider musical identity outside of this one song, which speaks something about how important this closing track was to his whole brand.
The single clocks in at a little under three minutes, and sums up the EP’s ideas without dragging things out needlessly. Tuff King does not attempt any new concepts here, but instead provides a conclusion to all that the preceding five tracks have built up.
That method fits his greater artistic trend as well. It’s a foundation that this initial EP lay down, and one that his later project, “Black Sheepizen (The 13th Disciple),” continues to build on. “Gividem” wasn’t really an ending at all.
