Grammy-nominated Houston rapper Tobe Nwigwe drops “PERFECTION” featuring Flavour and C.S. Armstrong, produced by Tierce “Kizzo.”
It’s the sixth song off his new album, “The Bridge,” due out August 21 via Human Re Sources. But it also works as a single in its own right, because the idea behind it is that obvious. Tobe himself said it best: perfection is not the absence of flaws. It’s about seeing the beauty in the broken people who helped make you who you are.
Flavour adds his distinctive warmth to the record, singing in Igbo on the chorus. His contribution adds a cultural aspect that Houston rap rarely has to “PERFECTION.” C.S. Armstrong adds soul-driven vocals that bridge both worlds naturally, while Tobe’s reflective lyricism ties the whole thing together without getting too abstract.
The record follows “All or Nothing” with Labrinth in the “Bridge” rollout. So the album is already showing serious range before it even gets here. She was previewed some material at an intimate Blue Note NYC session earlier this year and that only increased the anticipation.
