UK rap and drill heavyweight Tion Wayne returns from Edmonton, North London with a new crisp tune named “Old Dilemma”.
The record opens on a cyclical relationship pattern, that familiar push and pull of splitting up and making up again, by Dennis Junior Odunwo. If Tion Wayne is to be believed, wealth is what transformed him, and the song quickly pits money and loyalty against each other rather than considering them as separate themes.
You can feel the tension throughout the entire tune. He’ll drop in luxury references (his Rolex RM, for example) with real vulnerability around prior screw-ups and remaining devoted, and that juxtaposition gives “Old Dilemma” more emotional complexity than a normal flex tune.
After collaborations such as “Bad Habits” with Central Cee, “Old Dilemma” shows that Tion Wayne can hold his own on a solo record just as much as a stacked feature.
