Tanzanian Bongo Flava star Smosha releases a vibrant new solo track named “Nyau Nyau”.
Smosha has been steadily building steam since dropping this one, getting success on Audiomack, YouTube and TikTok. The term “Nyau Nyau” is repeated throughout, and quickly became shorthand for street culture and everyday swagger. That kind of playful repetition is exactly what drives Bongo Flava tracks to viral territory.
The sound is slick but simple, going for a clean, catchy beat above anything too deep. Nothing else here vies for attention against the hook. The tempo is restrained enough that that title phrase has plenty of space to really sink in with multiple listening.
Beginning with the first line, Smosha’s vocals have an easy confidence about them. He prefers humor to rage, thus the album as a whole feels like an intimate joke between him and the listener. But there is nothing too serious going here and that lightness is obviously intended. And so the tune sticks even without great narration.
