Obedo PF, the exceptional musician and recording artist, wraps out this run on a hopeful new record entitled “Promise Land.”
After venting to Shayo under the influence of alcohol, he zooms out to something bigger. “Promise Land” is no longer about one night; it’s about where all the effort truly takes you. Obedo PF eventually unveils the destination behind the grind six songs in.
The instrumentation here is warm, based on a delicate guitar melody and smooth rolling percussion. The chords have a gospel-adjacent lift that was absent on any previous cut. The speed isslightlye slower than “Shayo” but never heavy like “Victim” did either.
His voice is more convincing here, solid and sure instead of loose or clipped. He isn’t rushing the hook, allowing each line to land with intention. That patience gives the record a certain serene confidence that the earlier, harder cuts don’t have.
Lyrically, he stitches together threads from the entire run: the hustling from “Wayo,” the sorrow from “Victim,” and the release from “Shayo.” All of it points to one aim now, that promised land he is chasing. It’s like a summation, and not one line is repeated from before.
Obedo PF has made a great arc here, six records in. Swagger. Aggression. Hustle. Hurt. Release. Hope. Each one belonged here. “Promise Land” pulls the whole story together without tying it up in a neat bow.
