Music executive and producer MURPHY has assembled one of the most cross-border lineups of the moment on “All You Need,” uniting Ayo Maff, Muyeez, and Ghanaian music entrepreneur Smallgod on a tune about love, trust, and the lines between both.
It’s in the well-trod domain of Afrobeats romance yet it’s well-executed. But four voices with four separate personalities give “All You Need” a texture that most love records constructed around one performer can’t duplicate. So each verse twists the emotional viewpoint a bit — Ayo Maff is street level genuineness, Muyeez has his rising star magnetism, and Smallgod grounds the whole thing with his pan-African perspective. MURPHY is the creative anchor of the project all the way through.
And the production staff here is also worth noting. AJ Productions, Dilip Venkatesh, Jay Weathers, Kevin Ekofo, Mino Drerup and Othello Houston all had a hand — and yet the record never sounds overdone. The Afrobeats foundation is clean and warm, so the performances are clear and don’t have to compete with the production for space.
“All You Need” has a beautiful promise and sincere loyalty. That’s the emotional hook. Lines about beautiful lies and loaded firearms sit right beside pledges of adoration. Because modern relationship albums work best when they hold both sides of the sensation at the same time – and this one accomplishes so in four very different but complementing delivery.
For an executive-produced release, this also indicates MURPHY has an eye for lineups. Ayo Maff following ‘Life Is Slo II’ with EF Moon, and Muyeez riding momentum from his debut album announcement – both musicians come here at just the right moment in their paths.
