Lesotho hip-hop musician Litshepe Lr teams up with Khuthuza on “Natala,” the opening track to his five-track “Maja – Samo” EP.
This one has some tremendous narrative punch. It is about crossing the Mohokare River, that great divide that separates Lesotho from South Africa, and it gives the whole song a theme of movement and stepping into fresh beginnings. Shev Shengu and Inkosi KaVoiceMail produce this one, keeping the EP’s opener snappy enough to set the tone for everything that follows. Litshepe Lr’s collection continues to merge Sotho tale with current sound and this one leans heavily on that migratory theme.
The production marries hard-hitting hip-hop with Amapiano-infused basslines, giving the track real club-ready weight under the narration. And nothing here is losing steam. The arrangement keeps moving, reflecting the idea of forward motion baked into the lyrics.
His flow is sharp and relentless from the first note. Then Khuthuza comes in with an explosive vocal performance drawing from Maskandi and Afro-pop, adding a fresh texture to the crossing.
