Ghanaian musician Lalid teams up with rap heavyweight Medikal for a hard-hitting new tune named “Suffer”.
This isn’t their first rodeo trading verses. Lalid and Medikal have created genuine chemistry over the course of several recordings this year, from “Fully Active” off Medikal’s 18-track album “Disturbation 2” to “The Matter (Remix)” and their collaborative feature on Essumann’s viral “Big Bricks Remix.” So “Suffer” feels less like a first-time pairing and more like two musicians who already know how to maneuver around each other on a track.
That familiarity appears in the way the record plays out. Both rappers talk about struggle, pressure and the commitment it takes to achieve success, yet neither one duplicates the other’s approach. While Medikal goes into his dominating, punchline-driven delivery, Lalid goes into his crisper, more melodic flow. The contrast makes the record not feel one-note despite the common subject matter.
Production here is by Swatybeatz and the beat offers both artists enough space to have their verses stay without battling for attention. The outcome is slick but yet has that street-level honesty which has helped cement Lalid’s ascent and Medikal’s long-standing name in the Ghanaian hip-hop scene.
