Nigerian musician Kunmie expands the personal universe of his debut album 22, which dropped in 2026, with one of the previously unreleased tracks presented alongside the whole project, “Tonight”
Kunmie treats the album as a document of the experiences and feelings that were molding him at 22, allowing individual songs to depict different facets of his life without forcing the entire record into one mood.
That freedom is part of the musical identity of the project. Consciously fighting against being pigeonholed within the R&B box of his prior work, Kunmie uses the album to play around with a variety of conflicting concepts and energies.
The song also falls within a corpus of work that followed the success of “Arike,” which substantially extended his audience. Kunmie wasn’t aiming to re-create that breakthrough so much as to make a deeper statement about the artist he wants to be.
