Cape Town rap pair K.Keed and Orish join the Umgaranto II family on “Icebo Elithile” with Zmowa and Gaffi in tow for a stand out cut off the joint album.
“Icebo Elithile” is isiXhosa for “a small promise,” and that simplicity is more powerful than a big statement. The Umgaranto II album was constructed around township realities – ambition, loyalty, love and the struggle from Gugulethu to greater platforms – and this single is smack in the emotional centre of it all.
The production is theatrical and rich, reflecting the more refined sound the team spoke about when explaining what separates uMgaranto II from the previous tape. It doesn’t sound like a sequel striving too hard to be bigger. Sounds like the same people that did the original, just more sure of themselves.
K.Keed and Orish do their separate bits with the chemistry you’d expect from two folks who’ve been constructing this universe together since 2023. They don’t perform for each other – they just rap; that confidence is infectious.
Zmowa and Gaffi blend in without disturbing the momentum of the record. The artists both get the memo — improve the culture of the song, not simply the number. So “Icebo Elithile” ends up seeming like a room full of people who truly know each other more than a feature stacking exercise.
