Umgido is a sleek new album by South African producer and beatmaker Jnr SA, in collaboration with deep house artist Oscar Mbo. And this deep-groove cut comes at a time when dancefloor aficionados are crying out for a smoother transition between Amapiano and deep house.

The nightclub crowd is always looking for sophisticated late-night grooves with a solid rhythmic pulse. It makes perfect sense they’d team up, as both artists are masters of lush electronic effects. So they use this joint to celebrate dancing art and deep township grooves.

The sound architects build a highly clean, evocative soundtrack with warm synth pads and sharp shaker loops. Beneath a smooth bassline, they add modest, rolling log drums that give the music a nice bounce. But the percussion set-up still has its space, letting the melodic aspects breathe.

Jnr SA is meticulous and precise in arranging the rhythm section. He establishes the beat at a patient clip, adding minor percussion as the record progresses. So his arrangement keeps the listener engaged in a mesmerizing pattern all the way through.
