“Sojourner” joins legendary Nigerian producer and music exec ID Cabasa and Nigerian vocalist Kayefi, reuniting two names with roots in the prominent Coded Tunes group.
Kayefi’s creative connection with Cabasa dates back to the period she recorded at his studio, becoming one of the early artists signed to Coded Tunes alongside Olamide and Seriki.
That history provides useful background for the cooperation, without making “Sojourner” reliant on nostalgia. It brings a familiar voice from Cabasa’s prior musical network into his current stretch of releases and collaborations.
There is also a reflection of the continuity that has accompanied ID Cabasa in his career as the producer continually reteams with performers from different eras of Nigerian pop while still staying active with newer generations.
