Gaise Baba, the tremendously skilled Nigerian musician and recording artist, is out with this exhilarating masterpiece called Show Workings
The production is laid-back, with smooth keys and a subtle, consistent drum line. There is room throughout the track for the lyrics to hit. The voices are never too overpowering; the beat nicely complements the story being presented.
Gaise Baba’s delivery begins with a serious, almost didactic tone. He’s not speeding throughout the lines; he’s letting each one sit. Such patience lends the record a conversational tone, as if he were talking directly to the listener.
Greatman Takit throws in his own perspective, supporting the premise that faith needs proof beyond words. His verse provides a distinct voice for the same message. And yet, he doesn’t steal focus from Gaise Baba’s lead. Both artists are committed to the same purpose throughout.
“Show Workings” works as a whole because it is more comforting than challenging. Gaise Baba and Greatman Takit are not preaching here; they are asking the listener to think. That goal gives the tune some real lasting power.
