Tanzanian gospel singer Elia Mtishibi teams up with praise and worship musician Zoravo for the devotional project “Sitashika Simu,” a combination of prayer and spiritual persistence.
The title in Swahili means “I Will Not Put Down the Phone,” a sentiment that rings true in today’s digital world. The phone call is a metaphor for constant prayer, an open connection to God that Elia Mtishibi refuses to hang up, no matter what the scenario or wait.
It’s that kind of contemporary framework around a timeless spiritual theme that makes current East African gospel engage with younger listeners who might not relate to more traditional worship language.
Zoravo adds his own unique brand of worship to the cooperation. His 2026 single “Roho Mtakatifu” – “Holy Spirit” – dropped just days before this joint album, a sign of two artists releasing with persistent intent rather than waiting for the best strategic moment. So “Sitashika Simu” is released in the middle of a creative run for the two of them, and the spark between them is a product of that impetus.
The gospel arena in Swahili in Tanzania has always prioritized simplicity of message over musical sophistication.
