Amapiano architect De Mthuda born in Vosloorus kicks out his “Noise” EP with “Skuta”, a solo instrumental that sets the tone for the whole album.
We have consciously decided to front the EP without a guest vocalist. “Skuta” puts De Mthuda’s production instincts front and center before the collaborators arrive – and immediately makes the case that the music does not need a vocal to carry its weight. The log drumming are deep and accurate. The musical layers grow slowly, deliberately. So by the time the track hits its groove, you are already in the universe he has built.
“Skuta” was also the first track that teased fans to the “Noise” EP sound throughout the multi-week campaign De Mthuda ran before the entire project arrived. The momentum of that first impression was enough to get it to number one on South Africa’s Best Amapiano playlist on Spotify, even before the EP officially dropped. Because quality manufacturing will sell itself no matter how much marketing is going on around it.
The track also receives its title in the conceptual world of the EP. The project titled “Noise” signifies a louder and more assertive artistic chapter for De Mthuda. But “Skuta” holds back first—building tension before the larger, more collaborative moments on the EP release it. That patience is what distinguishes De Mthuda from producers that front-load their projects with visible energy and run out of ideas halfway thru.
