South African hitmakers Cooper SA and Tyler ICU keep the momentum going with “Weekend” enlisting Thama Tee and Tiiger for a second cut off “One Day in Tembisa.
This one is notable for its simplicity. Where other tunes on the EP contain four or five voices, “Weekend” pares the lineup down to just two guests, and that restraint changes the atmosphere entirely. There’s more space to breathe here, and the title alone gives you a good sense of the attitude that Cooper SA and Tyler ICU were going for — lighter, looser, made for leisure not intensity.
Thama Tee and Tiiger meet that bill nicely. Both artists provide a more laid-back, melodic energy than some of the more vocal-heavy collabs elsewhere in the project, and that switch-up allows “Weekend” to establish its own identity within the EP rather than simply merging into the pattern established by tracks like “Khoma Lah” or “International.”
Tyler ICU’s producing instincts are obvious here too, Cooper SA and Instead of filling all the empty space, they let the groove carry the song, relying on Thama Tee and Tiiger’s vocal chemistry to do the heavy lifting. Such confidence in moderation is becoming a hallmark of their work during One Day in Tembisa.
