South African Amapiano pair Cooper SA and Tyler ICU kick off their collaborative effort with “One Day” the title-inspired main tune featuring Khalil Harrison, Ceeka RSA and Tyrone Dee.

Placement is key here. The song is also the name of the EP itself, “One Day in Tembisa,” so it has the burden of establishing the entire project’s character. So this is not simply another fully loaded cut. It serves as the thesis statement for everything else that follows in the release.

The chemistry of these four names is also nothing new. Khalil Harrison, Ceeka RSA and Tyrone Dee have been together on dozens of Amapiano collabs this year, from “Same Time” to “Aziwe Ke,” which means “One Day” and enjoys a familiarity that only comes with repeated studio time. There’s nothing here that feels rushed or thrown together.

Cooper SA and Tyler ICU’s mix is strong enough to give each vocalist room to breathe, rather than overstuffing the mix. Tyrone Dee’s beat complements Ceeka RSA’s lyrical delivery, with Khalil Harrison providing the emotional tug that has made him one of the genre’s most consistent partners. And together they make “One Day” a true group effort, not just a producer track with guest verses appended.

Watch “One Day” and let us know in the comments – does this opener set the tone for the rest of “One Day in Tembisa”?
