South African Amapiano duo ATK MusiQ introduce new voices to “The Return” with “Thapelo” featuring Goitse Levati and PowerKazii, a match that succeeds precisely because neither name is overexposed.
Thapelo means “prayer” in Setswana. So, from the start, the record has a spiritual heft. But ATK MusiQ put it in their signature Amapiano groove instead of going full gospel. That balance keeps it grounded, relatable, but still with the emotional depth the title promises.
Goitse Levati offers a voice quality that feels new on this project. The reliance on familiar partners throughout “The Return” makes the inclusion of Levati a contrast. Her speech is somewhere between soulful and conversational – which is the exact register this kind of introspective Amapiano track needs to hit without seeming heavy.
PowerKazii offers an additional dimension that nicely completes the cooperation. Together, the two voices provide “Thapelo” a collective sense, less like a feature arrangement and more like people gathered around something they all believe in. It’s hard to construct that kind of atmosphere but it comes across naturally here.
Snippets of the single also made their way online before the album’s formal release. It was simply a preview, but it created enough buzz for “Thapelo” to be one of the most talked-about moments on “The Return” before most fans had even heard it in its whole.
