California singer-songwriter Alyssa Grace has released one of 2026’s most emotionally intense indie-folk albums, “bloodstream,” produced by Steven Martinez.
The song is based on an actual discussion — her mom trying to get her out of a terrible relationship. Each phrase has a seriousness that comes from a specific root and not from fabricated sad writing. Alyssa Grace has not put on a costume. She writes about not healing properly. As to not trusting anyone. About being her father’s daughter, but not like him. Those contrasts are the heart of the record, and impossible to look away from.
“It’s the emotional arc of the writing in the arrangement,” says producer Steven Martinez. It starts off spare, just her voice and acoustic guitar, raw and immediate. But when the story reaches its most painful confessions, so does the production. It’s this alignment between the story and the acoustic landscape that is what separates craft from content. This was created by Alyssa Grace and Martinez together, certainly with intent.
Fans were already demanding the complete song be released before the song was officially unveiled on June 4 with a preview on TikTok in April. That demand was genuine. It was a special line or moment that surprised the listeners and wouldn’t let them go. So by the time “bloodstream” came in full, the crowd was ready, emotionally ready, waiting.
Her debut EP “spilling my guts” and “picking petals” entered the Billboard Hot Rock Songs Top Five, proof that this is an artist on the move. But this album, called “Bloodstream,” is going to be the song that starts her story.
