Rwandan hip-hop singer Abn X has brought Papa Cyangwe back to life for “Nahejo Pt. 2”, a follow-up to the original “Nahejo” produced by Hervis Beatz. The two already had chemistry on the previous record, so it was a natural progression to go back to the same cooperation.
Abn X has been steadily building out his catalog with tracks like “Cash App” with Young Chrii and “Ubuzima Nzicuza” with Deejay Unoo, carving out his own lane in Rwanda’s growing urban hip-hop scene. Papa Cyangwe adds his own weight to the record, having been featured on tracks with Riderman, Juno Kizigenza and Kivumbi King, making him one of the more in-demand voices in Kigali’s rap scene.
Hervis Beatz delivers a rhythm that remains true to the sound character the duo created on the debut “Nahejo.” The instrumental is built on a smooth, melodic hip-hop structure with clean drums that have enough warmth for both artists to sit comfortable on. Here nobody tries to reinvent the wheel.
Abn X opens with his typical cool delivery, constructing verses in Kinyarwanda-inflected bars that have real narrative weight. He doesn’t just run through lines or pad excessively. Each word feels put, not flung.
