Multi-talented Nigerian musician Obedo PF drops new confident solo record titled “Ronaldo.”
The title says it all before you even hit play. He’s comparing himself to the football legend, trying to emulate him in his consistency and desire. It’s the flex that a lot of street pop guys are going for these days. Obedo PF just carries it harder than most.
The beat also hits differently than “Lagos.” They constructed it around a powerful 808 pattern with melancholy sparse synths underneath. A faint choral chant loops in the back, giving it that anthem draw. There’s nothing congested about the mix and the vocals receive room to breathe.
On this one he sounds sharper. His delivery is almost clipped. Short bars. No wasted space. A little more edge to his tone. That’s a change from the more fluid ride he took on “Lagos.” But the violence is consistent with the subject matter.
He’s not simply chest-hammering here on the lyric side. He drops actual challenges into the bars as well as the football chatter, so the metaphor never feels cheap. It’s more personal motivation than empty boasting and that’s the part that hits home.
Obedo PF is definitely broadening his horizons with two records to his name. “Ronaldo” is the grit, “Lagos” is the swagger, and they both work because he sounds comfortable in either lane.
