The very skilled artist, Obedo PF, comes through with a street-smart new tune named “Wayo.”
“Wayo” is Lagos slang for deception, hustle techniques, and the kind of street savvy that keeps a man ahead of the game. This one pulls back into something more realistic after the football machismo of “Ronaldo.” Obedo PF sounds like he is telling secrets instead of doing them.
The instrumental here is more light than his last 2 releases. Most of it has a wiry guitar loop running through it and a laid-back shaker pattern. It doesn’t have the low-end pressure of “Ronaldo,” and that gap allows the storyline to have more weight to it.
He slows his flow down a little bit on this one; it’s almost conversational in spots. He doesn’t try hard to prove anything; he merely tells street situations with a knowing smirk. “That patience in his delivery actually makes the bars hit harder.”
The lyrics float around hustle stories, near misses, and the minor gains that come from keeping your head on a swivel. Nothing here seems overdone for the sake of shock, either. It sounds more like recollection than performance and that makes the record honest.
Three tracks in and Obedo PF is still changing perspectives without losing his fundamental voice. “Wayo” replaces “Ronaldo’s” gym intensity with something more like street wisdom. That range is beginning to seem like his true signature.
