The spectacular Nigerian, Obedo PF, switches the mood again on a party-ready new tune dubbed “Shayo.”

After the weight of “Victim,” this one feels like an inhale. “Shayo” is street slang for drinking, forgetting the weight for a night, and letting loose. Sharp turn from the last drop and Obedo PF wears the shift effectively.

The beat quickly brings the momentum back up with a bouncing log drum pattern and bright synth stabs. A whistle hook creeps in during the chorus, providing that instant singalong pull. Everything here seems to be made deliberately louder and looser than “Victim.”

Less accurate than “Ronaldo,” but that’s certainly the aim here. He sounds like he’s actually at the function, not describing one from the outside.

No serious confession, no street parable, simply freedom after four records of darker stuff. That juxtaposition is what makes it work so brilliantly right now.

Sometimes it’s just about release.
