Nigerian rapper and singer Zhus Jdo is in a dance-filled space on his 2026 project Wahala Pikin, out 7 August, with “Opium Amapiano”.
Zhus Jdo writes with a boisterous, in-your-face style, mixing sexual boasts, nightlife references and street-minded swagger with a heavily repeated primary motif. It’s a performance that taps into the easygoing, conversational feel of a lot of his rap output.
At less than two minutes, the record leans toward immediacy rather than a protracted arrangement. The composition is mostly built on repetition, the repeated hook providing the music with a chant-like identity, the verses rushing through short lyrical concepts.
The placement on Amapiano playlists and Afrobeats playlists speaks to the crossover at work here, with Zhus Jdo’s Nigerian rap approach married to a framework developed for contemporary African dance environments.
