Zambian singer-songwriter Temwah is out with a new heartbreaking ballad named “One Man (Band)”. The song is about self-reliance and emotional fidelity.
Born Temwa Gondwe on August 18, 1998 in Lilongwe, she heralded the release with a simple message – “Happy birthday to me, One Man Band out now” – and that energy translates immediately into the record itself. Marking a release date instead of waiting for a birthday speaks something about her attitude to her work; the music is the celebration.
“One Man Band” is cheerful and Afro-fusion all the way through, fitting in with her Neo-Soul and Amapiano collection without taking her anywhere entirely new. Her vocal delivery remains rich and assured, the kind of performance that sounds genuine rather than rehearsed, which has been the persistent thread between her duets with Rich Bizzy, Zeze Kingston, and Namadingo.
When he’s not making music, Temwah is a Human Resource Management graduate, founder of the He Matters Foundation and a Boy Child Activist — one who is developing a full life outside the studio. “That context gives “One Man Band” a different kind of weight.
