Swayvee teams up with JayJayy and Bola Bmh for “Spaceship,” and this one is somewhere else than his last drop.
Space imagery in a song title usually signifies one of two things: either some literal escapism or just a showy metaphor for sticking out. Honestly feels like a touch of both here. Not anchoring this one in anything too literal, more vibe than tale, for Swayvee.
Production travels a little further from the pure amapiano, some airy synth noises floating above the log percussion base. Light touch on low end seems more spacious, unsurprisingly. That shift might have JayJayy’s fingerprints on it, impossible to tell who performed what exactly.
Swayvee opens loose, dreamily in his beat-riding. No rush to get anyplace, let the spacey production take him. Different spirit than the direct compliment approach on “Omalicha”, more abstract this time.
JayJayy and Bola Bmh split the rest rather evenly, adding their own texture without crowding Swayvee’s lead. The Bmh portion in particular offers a little of roughness that cuts through the floatier output. Keeps the whole thing from being too much background noise.
Three voices, one wandering idea, and it largely works. “Spaceship” won’t be for everyone, with some wanting it to be a little more grounded. But there’s ambition, and that’s half the battle.
