Woza Bakzin and GoldMax add another crew to “Umfequzo,” this time with Blaqkidd, Naitor and Assiye Bongzin.
Four names again, back to the broader posse-cut format after the solo run on “Ispikili.” Umfequzo has a sense of stirring things up, shaking loose, that kind of restless energy. Works on a track full of voices attempting to make his mark.
GoldMax maintains the log drum thick, customary for this team by now, but adds a rattling percussion loop to give “Umfequzo” its unique flavor. Doesn’t sound like the other collab cuts. There is still little piano, primarily just the rhythm talking.
Woza Bakzin is freewheeling from the start, leading the pace before passing off. Blaqkidd has a sharper cadence, breaking up the flow a little. Over four verses, various rhythmic pockets layered on the same beat prevent it from sounding repetitive.
Naitor and Assiye Bongzin close it out. Naitor brings extra grit, Assiye Bongzin softening things back down before the music closes out. One beat holding things together. Four different ways. No one’s overstaying their welcome here either; verses remain tight.
Another deep crew cut for Woza Bakzin and GoldMax, and they obviously have a recipe for making things work by now. Doesn’t feel like filler, despite the number of names linked.
