Tanzania sibling duet Chobis Twins, the combo Asma and Maasna Athuman Yusuph, are back with a new track called “Sio Kwa Ubaya.”
“Sio Kwa Ubaya” translates roughly to “not out of malice” in Swahili, a classic East African term used when one wants to say something honest without appearing accusing. The track is available in August 2026 via IK Mziki. The title alone implies that the duo has something pointed to say here, because that term carries such a unique cultural weight.
Whether the song actually speaks to the same displeasure or not, the timing between that public speech and this release feels far from accidental.
Chobis Twins continue to sonically build off the Afrosounds identity that’s based on heart and soul that’s been present in songs like “Relax” and “Kudadadeki” throughout 2025 and into this year.
Their history has always been full of songs made for listeners passing through difficult circumstances, and “Sio Kwa Ubaya” appears to carry that same emotional honesty.
For twin sisters navigating a market that hasn’t always made room for women, this release has more weight than just melody.
