Tanzanian musician and songwriter, Rommy TZ, teams up with Omoki Music for a soul-touching Bongo Flava duet dubbed “Penda Shana.”
The song is based on a simple premise most love songs go for but rarely hit so cleanly: finding someone who loves you back as much as you love them. Each artist shares the responsibility for writing, rather than one composing the lead and the other polishing it. Therefore, “Penda Shana” is less a traditional love song written for one voice and more a true dialog.
Some releases have a parenthetical subtitle floating around them, “Mimi Ninawivu Bwana,” meaning roughly “I am jealous, sir,” which gives a sense of playful possessiveness under the loving surface. That detail suggests a record less about polished devotion and more about the dirtier, more honest side of wanting someone all to yourself.
