Chocolate City goes a bit tighter and playful with “2MAGARITAS,” teaming Blaqbonez and Noon Dave for a two-man record that’s a bit different from the full-roster excitement of “GO CRAZY II.”
That disparity is what makes this release interesting. Where five artists made a collective statement on “GO CRAZY II,” “2MAGARITAS” pulls back to just two — and the focus is apparent. And Blaqbonez and Noon Dave are talented enough to carry an album alone without the weight of the complete roster behind them. So the energy is more intense and the personalities come out more.
The feeling is in the title already. Two margaritas in is a pretty distinct emotional register. Relaxed confidence, a little lifted, nice company. Chocolate City didn’t overthink the notion, and that restraint works in the record’s favor. Because a party record that explains itself too much, destroys the mood before you get to the chorus.
Blaqbonez keeps on his melodic rap path throughout — attractive, snappy and effortlessly captivating. Noon Dave brings the emotional warmth to the record, and makes “2MAGARITAS” a replayable track. For both artists, this one appears to be more fun than strategy. And records that sound like really fun things to make often sound like really fun things to listen to.
This release adds a much needed tonal variety to Chocolate City’s 2026 campaign, which also includes “Uloma,” “Tonight,” “Suddenly,” and “GO CRAZY II.” Not everything has to be a proposition. Sometimes the best thing a label can release is just something that makes you feel happy.
